2014-2015 Preschool Applicants
The preschool program is open to children who will be 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1st of the current school year. All children must be potty trained and applications are accepted on a first come first serve basis. Preschool meets three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) from 9am to 11am.
Waiting List
A waiting list is created when both semesters of preschool are full. Openings are not guaranteed but may occur when children drop out of the program or miss three unexcused school days. All applications are dated and those at the top of the list will be the applications that are received first. It is recommended that you apply during the spring and early summer to ensure your child will be admitted to the program.
Senior Involvement
Senior involvement is very important in our preschool program. The seniors do evaluations on the preschoolers in the beginning of the program to assess strengths and weaknesses. Once these are determine individualized learning goals are created for each preschooler and an assessment is completed again at the end of the year. The seniors final is to create a case study documenting the progress of the child and what they have done to assist in their child working towards their learning goals.
Each week the seniors are assigned 1-2 lessons to complete during their week. I provide a theme for each day and together as a class we discuss what we want the children to learn from the theme and incorporate this knowledge into our lessons. All the lesson plans are created by the seniors who will carry out their prepared lesson during the week. All lessons must be approved by me before the start of the preschool week.
In addition the seniors will also conduct assessments and observations on your child. These assessments and observations will be used to create learning goals for you child. Once a learning goal is established, the seniors will research activities to work towards the learning goal.
